The Subscription Matching Experiment
I noticed this idea on Twitter.
.
You're probably familiar with the concept that some employers will match your contributions to an IRA or 401K.
.
The idea here is to match some of your monthly subscription expenses by investing in that company's stock if they are a public company.
.
For example...if you have a Netflix membership and you pay $8.99 per month (like I do), every time you pay Netfilx you buy the equivalent amount in Netflix stock.
.
None of the brokerages I have accounts with offer fractional shares so I opened up a Robinhood account on July 11th and put $20 in it...
.
.
And then I just waited for the first subscription payments to hit.
.
That happened on July 26th...Amazon...$13.90 for Amazon Prime Membership. And then on the 27th there was $8.99 for my Netflix membership.
.
So today, the 27th, I bought the same amounts in Amazon and Netflix stock.
.
.
One of the benefits of opening a Robinhood account is they will give you one share of a random stock. They tease you with examples of high value stocks you might get but no such luck for me...
.
.
I will likely update this once per month.
.
Stay tuned and start your own subscription matching program!
.
If you're new here, I start a new experiment every week in the areas of health, wealth, self improvement and more.
