The 40 Day Sugar Fast Experiment

My first experiment of 2022 is very similar to an experiment I did in 2019.

That was my 30 days trying the carnivore diet.

I lost 12 pounds but two months later, at my annual physical my blood work was the worst it's ever been. (it's a happy ending...to see it, click the link above.)

Anyway, cousin Nancy was gifted a book called, "The 40-Day Sugar Fast" and was going to do it, so I decided to do it too.

The interesting thing about that 220 page book is that there are only, literally, 3 pages devoted to food suggestions.  The rest is about replacing sugar with "the sweet presence of God in your life."

Regardless of  your feeling reading that last sentence, cutting out sugar is generally thought to be a good idea.  And since I'm about 10 pounds over my ideal weight, I'm in.

We started on January 10th and will go to February 18th.

I'm just cutting out processed sugars...no cookies or cakes or breads or pasta.  Some of these diets discourage fruit but I'm allowing it.

I won't be perfect...I'm having dinner at my sister's tonight and it sounds like lasagna is on the menu.  I don't want to be THAT guy at parties and I don't have to be.  I'll eat the delicious lasagna and skip dessert.

I'm attending a birthday party for a cousin on Sunday and I won't have any desserts nor drink anything but water, but if there isn't anything with no sugar, I'll do my best with no guilt.

I weighed myself at the start on the 10th and Wednesday the 12th...already down 2.5lbs....moving forward I'll do my usual Weekly Wednesday Weigh-in and add the results to this post.

UPDATE: 1/19/2022 - Down 5 lbs since the 1/10 start and I'm happy with that.  

 

FINAL UPDATE: 2/22/22 - The official 4o days ended on 2/18/2022.  I finished the experiment down 10lbs or right were I was in high school.  I was far from perfect, particularly the last week.  Most likely because I was down about 11 pounds on the 16th so I "took my foot off the gas".   In this case that means birthday cake, M&Ms, cheesecake & Pizza.  It's clear cutting out sugar and bread "works" for me in terms of losing weight.  Last I checked with Cuzzin Nancy, she'd lost 1lb. .
