You’re Broke Because You Want To Be

I usually get a few pieces of "hate" email when I use this book title as an email subject line.  The author, Larry Winget, is also known as the "Pitbull of Personal Development".

It's not actually directed at you since, obviously, I don't know anything about your personal situation.

So I hope YOU weren't offended.

What I particularly like about this book is that Larry is a big proponent of "spending yourself rich"

In other words spending your money on investments in your BRAIN...your education.
"Education is not an expense; it's an investment."

It will slap you across the face no matter what your financial
situation is.

It's filled with great quotes and my favorite is from Albert Einstein...

"If you feed your mind as often as you feed your stomach, then you'll never have to worry about feeding your stomach or a roof over your
head or clothes on your back."

My first slap came on page 39...

"YOU ALREADY KNOW WHAT IT TAKES TO DO BETTER."

"There are only three reasons people don't do well in life. They are stupid, lazy, or don't give a d*mn. Which fits you?

First, you aren't stupid. You may do stupid things, but you aren't stupid. Every person with a heartbeat knows at least one thing
they could do to be more, do more, and have more.

Let me prove to you. I'm going to ask you to look in several areas of your life and write down one thing you know you can do to make
it better. Be specific, because you know yourself better than anyone does.

AT WORK.
My one thing:

WITH MY FAMILY
My one thing:

WITH MY SIGNIFICANT OTHER
My one thing:

TO BE A BETTER PARENT.
My one thing:

WITH MY HEALTH
My one thing:

TO BECOME SMARTER
My one thing:

WITH MY FINANCES
My one thing:

See? You know at least one thing you can do in each area I have listed. You even know something you could be doing to improve your financial situation.

The problem never is that you don't know what to do. The problem is that you don't do it. In other words, you are lazy! And you don't care. I don't get this at all! I don't understand how anyone can know what it takes to do better in life and not care enough about themselves or their family to do it."
