The Cold Email Experiments…

Since July 1st I've been cold emailing local restaurant owners with a proposal to get them to review my text message marketing services at www.InstantHungryCustomers.com

The proposal is, I will buy a $20 gift card to their restaurant AND give it away on my Facebook page that has 5200 local fans if the owner of the restaurant will simply review my sales letter and let me know what they think...www.InstantHungryCustomers.com

Obviously the goal is to get them to say..."That service sounds great, sign me up!"  but it also gives me a chance to hear objections, which I can address in future versions of the letter.  (If you know any food sellers who want more customers, feel free to send them to www.InstantHungryCustomers.com)

As of today, I've emailed that proposal to 132 businesses...10 bad addresses and 3 responses.

One response was very positive...he offered to give me a $20 gift card to get more eyes on his page...said his POS system had texting capability but was willing to listen to what I had to say...we made an appointment to speak on the phone last Thursday but he didn't show up.

.

Maybe I was supposed to call him but when he emailed me his phone number, one number was missing.  I informed him of that in two subsequent emails but no dice.

.

One response was simply "how much is your service", I wrote back with the answer and didn't hear back.

.

The third response was... Why I'm not interested? Because text message marketing is a horrible annoyance and I will not be promoting it.

.

Obviously, this gentleman didn't go to the page where the 300 second video I made answers that objection, quite well if I do say so.

.

On the 11th and 12th of July I sent follow-up emails to the 20 businesses that got emails on the 1st and 2nd.  So I've sent 152 emails with the first proposal and gotten 3 responses.

.

On the 13th, I decided to change strategy...instead of the gift card approach, I'm inviting the owner to be on my podcast where I interview local business owners about their lives BEFORE business.

.

The old saying is, people like to do business with people they know like and trust.

.

Part of my pitch to get them on my podcast is that they can share the interview on their social media platforms so their audience can learn more about them.

.

I've actually already done 60 so there is a track record.

.

Last night I sent 21 emails with that proposal and so far have two responses...one...call me!  (we talk at 4 today) and two...we're remodeling at the moment, get back in touch in mid August.

.

Interestingly, those two responses came from people who got the gift card proposal email from July 3rd.

.

Did they make the connection that the same person was mailing two different cold emails?  I don't know and I don't care.
