The “almost” perfect baseball game.
I am not a big fan of baseball. I played one year of little league and put bat to ball exactly once and that was a foul ball. I was tall so I walked a lot.
I watch very little of it on TV and never whole games. Way too slow.
I am, however, fascinated by this Armando Gallaraga/ Jim Joyce situation.
Jim Joyce called a guy safe who was seen to be out on replay and this cost AG a perfect game.
After the game and watching the replay, JJ admitted his mistake, apologized in person to AG and it's just been a a terrific display of sportsmanship from both gentleman.
AG got a Corvette from Chevrolet and they will have a special display in Cooperstown.
Of course we'll never know what would have happened if the pitcher was someone a bit more hot headed....or if the ump refused to admit an error but this one has played out very nicely.
Mark McGuire in the TU had a good take on whether or not the call should be reversed by the commissioner.

I tend to agree with him.
