“Getting Out of Debt” is not a good new year resolution

Happy New Year!

You're really dedicated to me if you are reading this in 2010! (Thank you!) I'm writing it around lunch time on December 30th after having been struck with inspiration in the shower! (Don't judge me!)

In fact very few new year resolutions as most people make them are any good.

Why?

Because you can't control them.

You can't control your debt load but you can control making (or not) new charges and developing and sticking to a plan to pay them off.

You can't control your weight but you can control what you eat.

You can't control your income but you can control how many resumes you send out or the education you get to improve your skills and value to a potential employer.

You can't control the number of visitors you get to your website but you can control how many articles you write.

You get the idea.

Make your resolutions ACTION oriented rather that results oriented. Of course, it would help if these actions might lead you to your desired result. Eating 10 donuts a day might be fun but you aren't going to lose weight that way. 🙂

Best wishes for a happy and successful 2011!

Leo
